Acrocanthosaurus (meaning "high spined lizard") is a genus of carnivorous dinosaurs that existed in what is now North America during the Early Cretaceous, between 145 and 100 million years ago. It was one of the largest predators of that period, approaching 13 m in length, and weighing up to 7 tons. It's skull alone was 1.3 m long, with jaws full of curved serrated teeth, as sharp as a scythe (totalling 86 in number, to be exact).

Acrocanthosaurus was a bipedal animal, i.e. moving on its hind legs, with a heavy tail counterbalancing the head and body. It's forelimbs were relatively shorter and each hand bore three clawed digits. The most most notable feature of acrocanthosaurus was a row of tall neural thorns located on the neck, back, hips, and upper tail.
