Velociraptor - feathered dinosaur pictures

Velociraptor, meaning "swift seizer", was a medium-sized predator that lived in the Cretaceous Period, 85 - 80 million years ago. It was a fast-running, two-legged carnivorous animal, 1.5 - 2 m long and about 1 m tall, weighing up to 15 kg. It had three-fingered clawed hands and long, thin legs with four-toed clawed feet. Its body was covered with feathers.

Velociraptor may have been able to run up to roughly 60 km/h for short bursts. They were the smartest dinosaurs as calculated from their brain-body weight ratio. This made them all the more deadly predators.Despite having feathers, however, the arms of Velociraptor were too short to allow them to fly. The ascertained fact that they did possess feathers suggests that their ancestors could fly, but lost that ability.

The first Velociraptor fossil was discovered in the Mongolian Goby Desert in 1922.
